The history of the United Nations Organization (UNO) started just after the end of World War One (WWI). In 1919, the League of Nations (LN) was formed however failed because of the beginning of WWII. After the end of WWII, UNO was organised on October 24, 1945. UNO was found in order to hamper the world to face another major scale war.

United Nations Security Council

The UN Security Council is the most powerful organ, and is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security

UN Security Council has a total of 15 members: 5 permanent and 10 non-permanent elected members.

The 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. These countries hold veto power.

The 10 non-permanent members of the UN Security Council are elected by the UN General Assembly for a period of 2 years.

The Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It has 15 Members, and each Member has one vote. Under the Charter of the United Nations, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.

The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of a settlement. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.
