What is Atikaf?

Atikaf is the name of special Islamic worship which is observed during last (Ashra) ten days of Ramadan. During Atikaf a person get isolation from each and everything and spend his all time in worship, prayers and remembrance of ALLAH Almighty. There is a lot of merits of Atikaf which is discussed below.

Virtues of Atikaf During Ramadan

There are hadith quoted from our Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) about Atikaf and its advantages. Here, you will get to know about some virtues of Atikaf During last Ashra of Ramadan.

Atikaf and last ten days of Ramadan

1. Hazrat Aisha (RA) reports about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the following way:

“He used to perform Itikaf in the last ten days or Ramadan until Allah the Mighty & Majestic, took him.” (Bukhari)

Reward of two Hajj and two Umrahs

2. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“He who observes the ten days Itikaf during Ramadan will obtain the reward of two Hajj and two Umrah.” (Bayhaqi)

Imami Tabarani Fazail of Itikaf

3. According to Imami Tabarani, it says

“Whosoever for Allah’s sake did even one days Itikaf, Allah would keep him away from Jahannam by trenches.” (Tabarani)

Abn Abbas (RA) Says

4. While in another hadith, it quoted from Abn Abbas (RA)

Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, (about him who engages in i’tikaf), “that he is safe from sin & he also gets that reward which everyone (outside i’tikaf) gets for pious deeds.”

At last, ALHAMDULILLAH, and Indeed it can be said that lucky are those who get and fulfill this opportunity. Please if you have time and energy. Do observe and enjoy Atikaf at least once in your life. Because ALLAH says in the Quran

“Hearts find peace only with the zikr of Allah.” Quran [13:28]

Therefore, only in the Zikr of Allah will your heart will find peace. Where in Atikaf a person find much time for zikr and all other worships. May Allah fills our hearts with His love, forgive all our sins and make us among those who repent sincerely over their sins, Aameen summa aameen.
